The 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season has been one of the worst I've ever seen, if not theworst. The formation of Hurricane Wilma has tied this year with 1933 as the busiest year ever, and Wilma as the 12th hurricane ties 2005 with 1969 as the most hurricanes.

Hurricane Katrina destroyed the City of New Orleans, Louisiana as well as obliterated towns in Mississippi and Alabama, mainly on the coastlines. Hurricane Rita devastated the Texas-Louisiana border, and Dennis pummled the Florida panhandle. Hurricanes Emily and Stan tackled Mexico. Hurricane Ophelia crept up the Florida coast, Carolinas and eastern seaboard, and the remnants of Tropical Storm Tammy swirled across the Northeast and caused destructive levels of rain, destroying homes and breaking dams, all simply by raining.

Wilma slammed Cancun and the isle of Cazumel in Mexico, then tore through the Keys leaving devastating destruction in both the US and Mexico. Wilma set a new record for having the lowest barometric pressure ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin -- 882 mb. This is the 10th strongest ever measured on the planet.

As Wilma slammed the Keys, Tropical Storm Alpha came and went, mixing in with Wilma later as it crawled up the Eastern Seaboard. Hurricane Beta followed shortly after. The record number of named storms was broke; we had 26, and the old record, set in 1933, was 21.

It seems that the season will not end! Gamma, Delta and finally Epsilon in December came and went with no harm to land or people. The year ended with the unpredictable, miraculous Epsilon who defied expectations of forecasters many times. Is it a prediction as to what is in store for 2006?

The season was one of the most destructive ever known, as well as the busiest season ever -- yet it is behind us. And all we can do is look towards the future.
