July 30th, 2003- The last Volkswagen Beetle was completed today, and coloured baby blue. The last Beetle factory (producing the "Old Beetles") is in Peubla, Mexico, and is shutting down for many reasons. The new beetle is overwhemlingly popular, and Mexico just banned 2-door taxi's.
It's been exactly 70 years since Adolf Hitler started making the cars (yes, that tyrant started them), and this last beetle will be going to Wolfsburg, Germany, the home of the Volkswagen Company, to be stored in a museum.
This last version of the older Beetle is being sold in of course Germany and Mexico, but also Britian (and probably other places). Although, I do see these older versions being driven, Americans cannot buy these new versions of the older car. In 1977, Volkwagen stopped producing them in America because the car and air conditioning systems did not meet the nw US Safety standards for cars.
Many people will miss the Beetle. They are still popular in Mexico, and those in America who kept their Beetles from the '70's will still be able to drive them. But, we still have the New Beetle.

) so don't go "down on me" for asking this question. In the old modles, I've heard that there is only three seats in the car, two seats in the front (driver and passenger) and one single seat in the back (only for one passenger). Is this correct or do I need to finally pick up this rock I'm living under and breathe the fresh air?
